DIRECTOR OF BANDS
Amy Woody joined the Guyer High School Wildcat Band staff as Associate Director of Bands in the fall of 2007, and later as Director of Bands in 2014. Her duties include overseeing all aspects of the Guyer Band Program, directing the Wind Ensemble, teaching AP Music Theory, and helping administer and collaborate with the band staff in the Guyer Band Cluster, including Crownover and Harpool Middle Schools.
Ms. Woody graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Music Education in May of 2006 and served as Drum Major for the marching band in 2005. She student taught at Denton High School and McMath Middle school before earning a Master’s Degree in Clarinet Performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Her professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Mu Phi Epsilon, and Tau Beta Sigma. She is a member of the Lone Star Wind Orchestra under the direction of Eugene Migliaro Corporon. Ms. Woody is a native North Texan and a graduate of Marcus High School in Flower Mound.
Dr. Ellis Hampton
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF BANDS
Ellis Hampton has served as Associate Director of Bands at Guyer since the fall of 2009. His duties include coordinating all aspects of the percussion programs of Guyer HS, Crownover MS, and Harpool MS. In addition, he directs the Marching Band Program, and assists with Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band Program at Guyer HS.
He is currently a Doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas under Mark Ford, Christopher Deane, Ed Soph, and Paul Rennick. Prior to attending UNT, Mr. Hampton received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Percussion Performance from the University of Kentucky under James Campbell.
As a performer, Mr. Hampton was a member of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from 1996-2001, The Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, a founding member of the UK Percussion Quartet and winner of the 2003 PASIC Intercollegiate Solo Competition.As an educator, Mr. Hampton has served on the Cavaliers and Phantom Regiment percussion staffs and is currently the percussion caption head of the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps.
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF BANDS
DIRECTOR OF JAZZ BANDS
Mr. Tyler Brinkman is in his second year at Guyer High School, serving as Associate Director of Bands. Mr. Brinkman’s duties include directing the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band, while assisting with the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Concert Band. Along with teaching at the High School he will be teaching beginner classes at Crownover and Harpool Middle Schools.
Mr. Brinkman attended Baylor University in Waco, TX. While at Baylor, Mr. Brinkman completed his Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music. Mr. Brinkman studied trumpet under Wiff Rudd and Mark Schubert and was a member of the Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensembles, Trumpet Ensembles, Courtside Players, and the Golden Wave Marching Band. Mr. Brinkman also performed with the Waco Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps in 2013.
COLOR GUARD DIRECTOR
Suzie Hanggi recently graduated from the University of North with a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Prior to moving to Texas, Suzie resided in Atlanta, Georgia. There she began performing colorguard in 1998 at Pope High School in Marietta. Throughout her four years, the guard was highly successful earning both a Silver Medal in Open Class and a Bronze Medal in World Class.
After high school, she was a member of both the Santa Clara Vanguard (2004, 2005) and Phantom Regiment (2006) Drum and Bugle Corps. Suzie also marched in top winterguards such as the Infiniti World (2003), Pride of Cincinnati (2004,2005,2006), and Phantom Regiment (2007).
Suzie began teaching colorguard right after high school at Kell High School and spent the next 7 years there. During her time, Kell was a WGI finalist (2008), and a WGI Silver Medalist (2005). Suzie helped bring back CrownGuard to WGI after a 6 year absence and taught there for two years. During the summers, she teaches drum and bugle corps. She began teaching drum corp with the Phantom Regiment in 2008 and became DCI World Champions. The next three years she spent the summer with Carolina Crown (2009 Silver Medalists). Currently, she is a member of the Madison Scouts staff.
